GE Vernova Receives SC Economic Impact Award

For nearly six decades, GE Vernova in Greenville has helped shape South Carolina’s manufacturing economy by building and supplying gas turbine engines for power markets around the world.

Recently named the 2026 recipient of the South Carolina Economic Impact Award, the company employs over 3,000 people in the state and has a 413-acre campus in Greenville with more than 1.5 million square feet of state-of-the-art production, testing, and advanced laboratory spaces.

The award is sponsored by BMW Group Spartanburg and recognizes companies for lasting economic contributions to South Carolina, including their business operations, investments, and role in the state's economy.

Eligibility requirements for the award include at least 10 consecutive fiscal years of operation in South Carolina, at least $100 million in annual revenue, and a minimum revenue of $100 million in the most recent fiscal year used for judging.

The program also asks nominees to document their capital investments over the preceding three fiscal years and their community involvement.

“Greenville is uniquely positioned to meet our growing demand,” said GE Vernova’s VP of Gas Power Engineering John Intile.

“We have a large manufacturing presence, and that presence is growing,” he added. “But we also have an engineering community and other supporting functions, whether that be sourcing materials and finance teams that can all do something pretty special when they work together.”

GE Vernova is currently adding  $160 million in investment and more than 650 new jobs to its Greenville facility. The company said in a release that the investment would help meet surging customer demand for electricity equipment at home and abroad, while also supporting capacity growth, quality, industrialization and delivery efforts, and new testing capabilities with hydrogen fuel.

The investments in Greenville are part of a larger nearly $600 million planned investment across the U.S. announced previously and are the first part of a larger $11 billion cumulative global capital and R&D investment plan through 2028 across the company’s facilities in the U.S.

On the March 2026 earnings call, GE Vernova CEO Scott Strazik said the company had installed more than 200 new machines in its gas-power factories during 2025, mostly in Greenville, and planned to install another 200 in 2026. He also described the Greenville production ramp-up as progressing well. The company invested an additional $35 million in its Greenville facility in 2024. Greenville is also a key location where GE Vernova is adding advanced machinery to help increase safety, quality, and output.

Also in 2024, Strazik has announced plans to increase global capacity of heavy-duty gas turbines more than 25 percent to meet robust demand.

Meanwhile, GE Vernova’s VP of Gas Power Global Supply Chain Shane Long said there's a lot of focus on making sure GE Vernova’s operations are in place and ready to serve that demand.

“Our supply base is global and we have long-term partnerships with very key suppliers feeding our factory in Greenville with critical parts to assemble gas turbines,” he said. “As we add capacity, our suppliers are having to add capacity as well.”

During the second quarter of 2026, GE Vernova reported strong revenue growth driven by a robust backlog and increased service revenue, with revenue reaching $11.1 billion for the quarter. In that earnings update, the company also reported a backlog of $176 billion.

The S.C.
